Find print problems in your design before it goes to the printer.
PrePress is an app for Canva. It scans your design and tells you what a printer is likely to complain about, so you can fix it before you upload your file.
What it checks
- Image resolution. Shows the effective resolution of every image at the size you have placed it, and flags the ones that are too low for good print quality.
- Bleed. Finds backgrounds and images that stop short of the bleed area.
- Safe margins. Finds text that sits too close to the page edge or runs past it.
Each problem is shown with a thumbnail and a map of where it sits on the page, so you can find it quickly. Tick problems off as you fix them, then scan again.
How to use it
- Open your design in Canva.
- Open Apps and choose PrePress.
- Choose your units (millimetres or inches) and the safe margin your printer asks for.
- Choose Scan design.
Good to know
- PrePress works on the pages of the design you have open. It does not change your design.
- Canva does not tell apps how an image has been cropped, so a cropped image can look better or worse than it is. PrePress warns you when it suspects this.
- For very large images, Canva provides a reduced copy, so the resolution shown is "at least" that figure.
- Text warnings are a guide. Canva reports the size of a text box, which can be wider than the words inside it.
- PrePress is a helper. It cannot see everything a printer checks, so always look at your printer's own proof or preview before you order.
